Held for the first time in 2017, in partnership with CNEN - National Nuclear Energy Commission, ENCOM - Meeting on Communication in the Nuclear Sector became part of SIEN in
2020, to facilitate its execution due to the limitations imposed by Covid-19. Since then, it has been happening regularly, always on the third day of SIEN.
ENCOM's main objective is to present and debate communication tools that can facilitate the dissemination of information on nuclear energy and radiation technology to society, showing that the socio-environmental benefits are much greater than the risks, which, incidentally, come being reduced thanks to technological advances and the development of systems
of security.
Nuclear radiation technology generates benefits far beyond energy generation, which are essential to society, especially in the areas of medicine, through diagnosis, treatment and control of cancer, agriculture, industry, transport, water desalination, defense, etc. But its benefits and safety need to be better known by society.
It is up to communication professionals in the sector to find the right language and tools to communicate efficiently and effectively, leading public opinion to know in order to understand.
